xXx:The Return of Xander Cage

19/01/2017 xXx:The Return of Xander Cage           ****

mv5bmzcwmjkxmzq3nv5bml5banbnxkftztgwmzgynda5mdi-_v1_ux182_cr00182268_al_Today I saw the latest Vin Diesel movie, the third in the xXx franchise. Vin Diesel stars as the lead character in three different franchises, the other two being ‘Deep Black’ and ‘Fast and Furious’
They could all be considered as one giant ‘Diesel in T-Shirt’ franchise. His character is always the same, outsider trying to be a good guy with a smile and wise-crack, while blowing up and killing on an industrial scale. That being said, I have never come away from one of his films feeling fully satisfied. He never fails to entertain my little mind, leaving me full of adrenaline and looking forward to the next. I only give him a score of 4 out of five, only for the total lack of originality or real surprises.

The Founder

This is a dramatization of how McDonalds came to feed 1% of the world every day, and it isn’t a fairy-tale.

The originmv5bmzexndg0mdk1m15bml5banbnxkftztgwnze1mjg0mdi-_v1_ux182_cr00182268_al_al story has been has been stretched to about 2 hours and feels like it should have been a 2 hour docu-drama for TV, so without the adverts, about 90 minutes long.

It is however very well acted by a well knows cast of familiar faces from TV plus Michael Keaton.

I think 3 out of five is fair for this film.

Hidden Figures

mv5bmjqxotkxoduyn15bml5banbnxkftztgwntu3ntm3ote-_v1_ux182_cr00182268_al_Based on a true story, this tells of how black women ‘computers’ were invisible to their white colleagues. It also tells of the incredible mathematics done pre electronic computers by these same women.

It graphically shows how badly black or coloured people were treated in the USA during the 1960’s, even in a forward-looking organisation like NASA. The level of presumed contempt displayed by nearly all the white people towards them made me feel both uncomfortable and angry.

How the US avoided much more violence at that time seems a miracle.

The acting and story telling give a moving experience to the audience that I felt inspired when I left.

Good luck in the Oscars and 5 out of five from me.

T2 Trainspotting

mv5bmtu2nta0ndm0mf5bml5banbnxkftztgwmdmzmtqzmti-_v1_ux182_cr00182268_al_I hope anybody seeing T2 Trainspotting will have, at some time, seen the first Trainspotting movie.

If no, don’t worry too much

It is well told, with plenty of flashbacks, you will soon pick up the story.

On the way out I spoke to two young persons who has not seen the original. Both enjoyed it but one also said it was the best film she had seen in a long time.

If yes, you are in for a great 2 hours of drug fuelled excitement, nostalgia, violence and kinky goings-on.

Fascinating film by a master of the art, Danny Boyle.

He is backed up by Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and many other familiar and new faces.

4.5 out of five.

What is this bloke on about?

This is the post excerpt.

Hi, if you haven’t found me from my FaceBook page then I’d like to tell you a little about me ancropped-unadjustednonraw_thumb_2187.jpgd my blog.

I am a retired male living in the UK, with time to spare and a love of cinema.

Recently I started to post short reviews of what I had just seen at the cinema on my FB page and received favourable feedback from my friends.   I got a bit carried away so after posting some 40 reviews my page was getting over stuffed, resulting in my other posts disappearing. I have now decided to move these reports to my own dedicated blog.

My idea is simply

  • To say what I thought of the film without giving anything away about the story that is not in the trailer already.
  • To do so in under 100 words.

I pay for my own tickets and get nothing from anybody except, I hope, your approval.

I also welcome your views on both my posts and your opinions about the same films/movies.

I use a 1 to 5 grade at the end of each review.

1 = Well that was two hours of my life wasted.

2 = Fine for a wet Sunday afternoon on TV with nothing better to do.

3 = A good story worth the price of admission.

4 = A very good example of the genre and not to be missed if this is your type of story.

5 = Even if you would not normally go to a film like this, I think it is too good to miss.

My thanks to IMDB.com for the poster images and where you can find trailers for all the reviewed movies.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to reading your feedback.
